TV… etc

Bought one FINALLY - a Samsung LN-T4665F. Supports 1080p!! w00t w00t! So now, the only thing left to replace is the speaker system. Crappy ol’ Norcent cubes! (no offence Saad, and yeah, I’m still using them :P). I’ve been reading up on Bowers & Wilkins after a friend recommended them - they’re beautiful but are they worth the dent in the wallet? Onkyo, KEF, Klipsch and Infinity are some of the other more affordable ones I was looking at. Speaking of… “Infinity”, I recently dumped my ‘95 Corsica (at a Carmax in Chicago on the way to NC) and replaced it a week after with a fully loaded (minus a rear spoiler) 2007 Infiniti G35 Journey! Triple w00t! Super fun drive, at a great price (thanks Cisco)! Going to work has never been so much fun! And neither has listening to the news - its like music, if not better! I’m not talking about Fox or CNN here. I’m talking about BBC News - real news. Anyways, back to Google now.

I DO need a new TV

That is all it takes if you want over-the-air , as well as standard cable. Stop paying those extra fees for the receiver, and the remote that comes with. If you already have a PC with a free PCI slot, P4 proc, 512MB RAM, 100+GB of hard drive space, you just need to spend approximately $150-200 to be up and running. This includes the Hauppauge HVR-1600, indoor HD antenna, Firefly Remote, BeyondTV software, and a bunch of cables to interconnect everything. Record, rewind, fast-forward, schedule recordings over the web, encode in pretty much any format you want: small enough for the PSP, large enough for your . Speaking of…. I need to upgrade my antique rear-projection . Need to go slimmer. Panasonic maybe? 1080p? Or would 720p suffice? Is the quality noticeable enough to justify the difference in the price? I hafta tell ya - the reviews some of the 1080p monitors make me wanna get one, like the Panasonic Professional series. Tempting… Maybe if a deal comes along and if I can somehow manage to offload my current . Its a great set, but a tad bit bulky, considering everyone is going slimmer. But, do I really need a new ? Decisions, decisions, decisions! Is 480p/1080i good enough for another year or so, considering most OTA HD that I’ll be watching is 1080i at best. Right? Meh…
